A revolutionary, an icon; Maya’s writing inspires the kind of raw, compassionate and authentic approach to human development that draws me toward coaching practices, and which brings me into this space today. 

My main focus of practice is Intersectional Leadership Coaching. We are being asked to bring our whole self into the workspace, and to do this safely (with our needs being met along the way) we have to stand strong in our mana/ in our boundaries, or risk being exploited. 

I see coaching as a beautiful partnership; based in self-determination and empowerment of humanity's innate strengths and willingness to get vulnerable in the edges.

What actually is “Coaching”?

For me, the coaching kaupapa believes in the self-determination and capability of the client to envision, design and implement where and how they want their life to intersect and grow - with themselves and others in mind. I see my coaching role as having responsibility to: 

* Create a psychologically safe non-judgemental and non-advice giving, space

* Suggest tools and resources to help co-design a framework to help us get there 

* Support fluidity and growth within these frameworks 

* Cheerlead and also hold my client accountable to their own goals


Why consider Leadership Coaching?

The relationship between client and coach is a unique one, in which we are equal partners in the process working toward achieving your goals. Unlike forms of therapy that require unpacking of the past, coaching meets you where you are at right now and asks you where you want to be in six months, or a set period that can be broken down into a digestible framework. Then we work through this framework together. 

Mentoring is different again and assumes that one party has relevant knowledge, wisdom and experience to share with the other. Blending mentorship with coaching is relatively common in Aotearoa. This is something I am happy to discuss, at the client’s request.

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as “Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential”. The ICF Core Values are:

Alongside the 1-on-1 dynamic, I co-design coaching consultancy workshops: “Abuses of Power, and Healthy Relationships, in the Workplace” for groups of public and private sector clients.

Profits from the coaching consultancy social enterprise will go toward setting up the charitable arm of the organisation Agency Agency, registration pending.
